Ex-MEP states hypocritical EU ‘totally complicit in Gaza genocide’
“I don’t even think ‘complicit’ is a strong enough word. The EU has completely backed Israel’s actions in Gaza,” Wallace said.
He specifically condemned European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola for issuing unconditional support to Israel following the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack. “They’ve never once criticized Israel,” he claimed.
Despite widespread public protests against the war across Europe, Wallace accused EU leadership of aligning itself with what he termed the “Zionist settler-colonial project.”
Referring to a recent review by the EU’s External Action Service, which suggested that Israel might have committed human rights violations, Wallace dismissed it as meaningless. “Israel controls them,” he said, asserting that no real action would follow.
He noted that even after tens of thousands of Palestinians, including many children, were killed by Israeli forces, the EU still refused to condemn Israel. “When photos of starvation emerged, suddenly EU officials said it was wrong to starve Palestinians — as if bombing them daily was acceptable,” Wallace remarked.
He accused the EU of lacking both moral integrity and respect for international law. Addressing speculation that EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas might propose a response to Israel’s actions, Wallace ridiculed the idea: “She’s completely unqualified — I wouldn’t trust her to run a coffee shop.”
Although the EU-Israel association agreement includes a human rights provision, Wallace said it has no practical impact. “Not a single EU country has suspended trade with Israel,” he said. “The hypocrisy is overwhelming.”
Wallace also criticized Germany for being the top EU arms supplier to Israel, but said the responsibility lies with every member state. “This genocide continues because the U.S. and Europe have offered unwavering support,” he concluded.
The ongoing conflict began with the October 2023 Hamas attack that left around 1,200 Israelis dead and 250 taken hostage. Since then, Israeli military operations have killed over 57,000 people in Gaza, most of them civilians, according to Gaza’s health authorities.
